The New York City Council held a hearing on Wednesday, December 4th, for legislation that would include electronic cigarettes in the city’s Smoke Free Air Act, forbidding them from everywhere regular cigarettes are banned, including parks, restaurants, and bars. New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas Farley argued that the devices make smoking seem socially acceptable and could trigger people to begin smoking regular cigarettes again. Sellers of e-cigarettes oppose the proposed regulation, arguing the devices help people kick conventional smoking habits. BTR Pulse’s Lauren Hawker spoke with people in New York about the proposal.
