In 2012, the ING New York City Marathon was canceled in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. However, on Sunday, November 3rd, the annual event returned for 2013 — one of many major marathons going on this fall. Partly because of the bombings at the Boston Marathon that took place in April of this year, the NYPD were in a state of high security throughout race weekend. BTR Pulse’s Lauren Hawker spoke with runners at the Javitz Center about their experiences last year and expectations for this year’s marathon, as well as with Rachel Johnson — a spokesperson from Team in Training, one of the oldest sports fundraising campaigns from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society — about the current state of fundraising-associated running.
