Jelly Kelly began life as a side project for Monogold frontman Keith Kelly, but quickly grew into its own beast. With a similar musical tendency (the presence of Monogold powerhouse drummer Jared Apuzzo – rototoms and all – probably helps with that) but a different angle that sees Kelly’s vocals opening up for a more full-throated delivery than that falsetto we’ve come to know and love over the years, Jelly Kelly is a young band full of experienced players (Nicolas Dube, Dom Bodo round out the quartet) having fun making weird sounds. The effect is an effortless, cool, catchy blend of post-punky hook-ridden indie rock that doesn’t want to fit neatly in any genre, and we’re here for it. The band dropped by Serious Business Music in Brooklyn to give us a taste of their brand new music.
