Zenizen is the project of Opal Hoyt, whose music reveals her journey from her roots in Alaska through Vermont, Jamaica, Washington DC, and ultimately Brooklyn. With a jazz foundation and soulful expression, the music is captivating and curious, blending styles and textures to great effect. The band joined us at Serious Business Music in Brooklyn for this special session. Es Is is available now. Listen to the audio podcast for more music and interview.
The Beths are a rock band based in Auckland, New Zealand, founded by lead singer/songwriter Elizabeth Stokes and guitarist Jonathan Pearce. Blending cool, catchy riff rock with fun vocals -- from all four band members, no less -- the band has a likeably addictive sound. Jonathan and Liz recently invited us in for a look at their makeshift home studio, and chatted with Maia about their new album, and what life may look like for the band this year. Jump Rope Gazers will be released July 10 from Carpark Records. Listen to the audio podcast for more music and interview.
Arthur Moon is a project led by NY-based musician Lora-Faye Åshuvud, whose boundary-pushing performance and vocals style blends well with an experimental sort of electronic dance music to create a hazy, unsettling, yet inviting take on pop. The band dropped by Serious Business Music in Brooklyn to give us this intimate look at their impeccable song stylings. Arthur Moon’s self-titled LP is available now. Listen to the audio podcast for more music and interview.
