Surfer Blood is a familiar name in the indie rock scene these days. A festival favorite who’ve toured with the likes of the Pixies (a pretty spot-on pairing in many ways), they’ve teamed up with Joyful Noise to release their latest record full of sunny jams, and continue to tour relentlessly. This session was filmed in late 2014, before guitarist Thomas Fekete had to sit out of touring to go through cancer treatment. Bands and fans have rallied to raise money and help him through this tough time. Check out some of the band’s new songs and their conversation with guest host Travis Harrison, about meeting Jeff Goldblum and their upcoming record — which they couldn’t quite discuss yet at that point.
Highly Suspect is a Brooklyn-based heavy blues/garage rock band. The trio draws on classic blues rock sounds and subject matter, pushing their riffs through solid grooves and perfectly overdriven amps to hit just the right blend of catchy and heavy. It’s no accident that they’re about to hit the road as support for Scott Weiland of 90s grunge rock heroes Stone Temple Pilots, since they tread on similar, though updated, ground.
