Gold Dime is the project of drummer/vocalist Andrya Ambro, who we first encountered as part of the amazing duo Talk Normal several years ago. These days, along with Ian Douglas-Moore and John Bohannon, Ambro drives the propulsive, disjointed post-punk grooves of this project with her impressively relentless and unique drum technique – all while delivering an impressively strong lead vocal. The trio visited us at Serious Business Music in Brooklyn earlier this year and now we present this second video from their session with us. My House is out now from Fire Talk Records. Watch our previous video for Gold Dime’s “My House” and listen to the audio podcast for more music and interview.
ing is an experimental rock band from Richmond, VA, comprised of Hannah, Will, and Garen. Employing the distinct–and sonically unusual for a band playing any sort of rock music–technique of playing only single notes and not chords, the band has a unique sound and feel, more akin to jazz or progressive, technical music than rock n’ roll, even though their structures tend to follow a somewhat traditional pop template. They visited us at Serious Business Music in Brooklyn earlier this year and now we present this second video from their session with us. self titled by ing is available now from Citrus City Records. Watch our previous video for ing’s “Sun” and listen to the audio podcast from their session.
Shadow Monster is the Bushwick, Brooklyn-based duo of Gillian Visco and John Swanson who play a potent sort of grunge-inflected indie rock. With heavy lyrical themes dealing with loss, depression, and isolation, there’s a tension just under the surface of their music that explodes into a cathartic big-riffed, hair-whipping frenzy. They visited us at Serious Business Music in Brooklyn earlier this year and now we present this second video from their session with us. Punching Bag is out now from Dadstache Records. Watch our previous video for Shadow Monster’s “Goodwill” and listen to the audio podcast from their session.
Mustardmind is the Williamsburg, Brooklyn-based art rock fronted by Bobby Lewis. With music that takes creative twists and turns through rock styles from 90’s alternative to prog and psych, the band isn’t afraid to take their time and enjoy a groove and sweet guitar solo. Fran is the musical project of Chicago-based songwriter Maria Jacobson. With touches of country, rock, and rockabilly, the versatile musician ties her debut full length record together with vocals that ebb and flow with masterful dramatic timing to tell her stories. The full band dropped by Serious Business Music to show us how they bring these songs to life. A Private Picture is available now from Fire Talk Records.
