Austin Town Hall has its editors list some of their favorite albums this year.
DJRePete ushers in the unofficial start to summer with a fresh mix including the latest from She & Him, !!!, and Alessi's Ark. You also won’t want to miss a lo-fi set—meant for vinyl—featuring Unknown Mortal Orchestra paired with BTR newcomer Har Mar Super Star. Plus tune in for info on the Field Trip Music + Arts Festival going down in Toronto, and featuring BTR bands. And to punctuate the change in season, DJRePete spins a track from Here We Go Magic that’s unabashedly self-indulgent. Enjoy (read: deal with it). That’s your Wednesday mix on BTR!
In honor of BTR's Earth Week, I'm joined on Sew & Tell today by special guest Natalia Allen, a pioneer in sustainable fashion design and technology. After graduating as Designer of the Year from Parson's, Natalia worked as a consultant for top-level fashion brands, helping them create accessories and apparel that merged fashion with new technology. It wasn't long before Natalia had seen enough of fashion production to know that it needed to change, and she decided to address those changes by launching her own sustainability-focused company and eponymous label. On today's show, Natalia will talk about the path she took from corporate fashion consultant to sustainable design pioneer, what "sustainable" means for her company and production process, the carefully considered aesthetics of her designs, what it means to be a Young Global Leader, and more. Plus, the latest music from John Grant, No Joy, Beacon, Phoenix, The Thermals, and more in today's mix! (Sadly, we have no update with Dane this week, but he'll be back again next week to talk Mad Men and menswear!) So turn up the volume and celebrate Earth Week with us, as we learn more about how technological advancements can help create responsible fashion!
SXSW!!!!!! We need not say more, as DJRePete’s got a mix covering some of the underground bands playing the Austin Festival, including alternative with Fort Lean and The Thermals, electro funk via Toro Y Moi and Dent May, and zen lyricless tracks with Delicate Steve and Frightened Rabbit. If you’re lucky enough to be there, get psyched for the festival, or live vicariously today with DJRePete on BTR!
CC41 - This week we have a storming set from Norwich's CC41. They really do create a very powerful sound from just drums, one guitar, and vocals. You really should look out for them at a venue near you soon. K? We certainly will be. Hey, Whaddaya Say, Let's Radio!
