Local artists are well represented at Brooklyn venues in the last days of November and first days of December, with shows featuring Mount Sharp, Flying Pace, Shilpa Ray, Acid Dad, and gobbinjr. Plus…
Cherry Glazerr, Thick and Dances had the room bursting with energy and excitement. Not bad for a Sunday night.
We have a music heavy episode this time, including new tracks from The New Restaurants, who are celebrating the release of a new website (‘cause that’s how they do), and Lomelda, who has a new album out. Both have release shows coming up. Also, we have plenty more music from artists playing around NYC/Brooklyn in late September.
Both Katie Von Schleicher and Dead Stars have new albums -- Shitty Hits and Perfect Patterns respectively -- out or on the way, so we focus mainly on them and their release shows in this edition of the podcast. Along the way, we’ll also hear tunes by Sam Evian, Tiny Hazard, Grim Streaker, and Fraidycat. Also, Innov Gnawa is set to begin a residency at Threes Brewing, so we’ll hear from them as well.
There’s a lot of new music coming out right now from NYC-based artists. One such artist is Parlor Walls, whose new full length album is being released by Northern Spy Records on March 10th, so we invited frontperson Alyse Lamb to talk about her musical history in a segment we call Take3, in which we listen to and discuss three songs she’s written over the course of her career. We also listen to some great new tracks off of new releases by Stuyedeyed, PEP, and the Duke Of Surl. In addition to all that, we also have music by Chain Wallet, Michael Nau, Light Therapy, and Libel.
Artists playing around NYC from 2/24-3/9; Thursdays For The Cause, March lineup; King Pizza Records; new music by Vagabon, A Deer A Horse, PWR BTTM; and a single to benefit Flint water crisis victims.
The NYC-based band Lady is calling it quits and they’re making sure to go out with a bang at Shea Stadium this Friday! Also playing are Gingerlys, Holy Tunics, & NO ICE—all ages and only $10!
This episode covers January 26 through February 8, 2017 and features an interview with Elizabeth Devlin. Elizabeth has a new album called Orchid Mantis coming out soon, so we discussed her musical history in NYC; how her poetry and visual art practice informs her music; her preferred instrument, the autoharp; and details about her album release party. Also in the episode is music by Sun Voyager, Holy Tunics, Jesse R. Berlin, Cloud Nothings, and Computer Magic.
