Join Michelle Markowitz, Anthony Atamanuik, and David Martin for some spooky storm-themed stories!
Remember that scarf you got in college (right after you broke up with your first big love) and still have? Or the sweater you stole from your sister in high school, and never gave back? Writer and artist Emily Spivack is a fashion historian/documentarian/anthropologist, who has been collecting personal stories and memories that are attached to the things in peoples' closets. In addition to writing the Smithsonian blog Threaded, focused on fashion history, Emily also offers two amazing blogs of her own, Sentimental Value and Worn Stories. The first is a collection of stories that Emily has found on Ebay, posted along with the item for sale, and the second is a series of first-hand narratives about favorite/meaningful garments and accessories, from a variety of artists, designers, and writers. On today's show, Emily will talk about her work for The Smithsonian, how she started to collect stories from Ebay, and why fast fashion doesn't allow for the cultivation of a meaningful closet. Plus, tons of great new music from The Raveonettes, Jason Collett, The Luyas, Conveyor, and more, and articles, favorites, and gossip from New York Fashion Week! So join us now as we get personal... in style.
