What do bicycles and fashion have to do with each other? Everything! Forget cars - biking is the fashion king of transportation, and beautiful cycle-friendly labels, designer bikes, and elegant bike style blogs have popped up left and right. For this week's show, I got to chat with designer and blogger Ann DeOtte of the new brand Iva Jean, dedicated to products that help women more easily incorporate biking into their daily routines. The line launched with its first product introduction last fall, when it released the Rain Cape. Championed by several top design websites, including Daily Candy and Cup of Jo, the Iva Jean Rain Cape is sleek, subtle, and sophisticated, designed with both street wear an cycling in mind. Join us as Ann shares about her work in marketing for design firms, her own transformation into a dedicated and determined biker, and the inspiration behind Iva Jean. Plus, new music samples from Field Report, NO, Matthew Dear, Firewater and more, for fashion Friday here on BTR!
It's Bike Week on BTR! First, we sit down with Morrigan McCarthy of Restless Collective, a two-person multimedia project that aims to explore the world, figuratively and literally, by bike. Along with her partner, Alan Winslow, McCarthy completed an 11,000-mile bike tour of the United States. And later, we head to the Motor City for an interview with Zak Pashak, a young Canadian politician and music entrepreneur that's breaking into the bike business in a big way. Despite the city's bad rap, Pashak fell in love with Detroit and opened his own bicycle manufacturing plant, Detroit Bikes.
