As the bio says, “Shamir is Shamir is Shamir.”  Nothing more really needs to be said. A singular voice and chameleon-like talent across mediums, sliding thru music genres and aesthetics – from pop beginnings to “indie rock Shamir” – in this exclusive interview and performance from Shamir’s home in Philadelphia, we cover a lot: from sustainable merch and the USPS, to his record label  – Accidental Popstar – and his relationship to the stage and performing, as well as the upcoming self-titled full length record.
This week is SUPER exciting because we’ve got pioneering punk Rodney Anonymous from The Dead Milkmen on the show.
It’s been a weird year in general — and that includes for movies and movie lovers. We discuss some that have managed to be released so far that are worth a look.
Field Mouse have been a favorite band here at BTRtoday for several years now – while much has changed for the band (members, cities, styles of music) what’s still maintained all this time is the massively enjoyable musical chemistry stemming from Rachel Browne’s sweet vocals and Andrew Futral’s wily guitar antics. The addition of Zoe Browne on vocals adds a layer of perfect harmonies that only siblings can produce in just that way, rounded out by a super tight rhythm section, the band is operating to its full potential these days, with perfectly hooky, emotional songs that we just can’t get enough of. They joined us at Serious Business Music in Brooklyn for this session. Meaning by Field Mouse is available now from Topshelf Records. Listen to the audio podcast for more music and interview.
Church Girls are the indie/post-punk band from Philadelphia comprised of Mariel Beaumont, Julien Varnier, Vince Vullo, and Joseph Wright. With soaring, catchy melodies and a fresh take on poppy punk (not really pop punk, exactly), the band dropped by Serious Business Music in Brooklyn to give us a taste of their impressive, road-tested intensity.    The Haunt is available now from Anchor Eighty Four Records.
