It’s Legacy Week on BTR! On today’s show, we’re joined by BTR staff writers talking more about their stories on the mysterious hometown of ‘Twilight Zone’ creator Rod Serling, and the curiously devoted employees of Brooklyn’s Rapid Realty.
Carsick Cars are a rock trio from Beijing. Singing mostly in English and taking a broad interpretation of noise rock, their songs are exceptionally catchy and melodic, and the Sonic Youth (who they’ve toured with) influence is definitely hard at work — pleasantly so. They’ve been at the forefront of the Chinese indie music movement for almost a decade, though lineup changes have left Zhang Shouwang as the sole founding/consistent member of the band even as the group’s popularity and work with other artists and projects has continued to grow their reputation worldwide.
It’s your daily news roundup courtesy of BTR!
BTR catches up with sample master Lee to chat about getting drunk, jazz, and soul.
GIMME TINNITUS is a Brooklyn-based music/MP3 blog run by a dedicated music enthusiast by the name of Bob Reich. We love his constant curation of killer shows, sick playlists, and undying advocacy for spending your hard-earned cash to support the bands he loves. He tends to go for the loud, abrasive, unconventional, and downright obscure-as-hell music that we can’t get enough of on Serious Business On BTR. For the fourth and final installment of the four-part GIMME TINNITUS X SB On BTR Takeover, we’re featuring Exocomet. Exocomet is a deliberately mysterious band. This Brooklyn-based two-man-machine of a post-punk experimental band has earned the right to keep the details murky, playing fast and precise, with layers of ambient sonic chaos for their krauty no wave dreamscapes to float around on. There’s a sort of familiar, ominous vibe to their music, but, more importantly, there’s persistent forward propulsion that’s highly addicting.

For the third installment of the four-part GIMME TINNITUS X SB On BTR Takeover, we’re featuring FINS. FINS is a Connecticut trio whose urgent, heavy, throaty rock pummels earholes in the best way possible. They’ve got the post-punk pulse down, and can thrash with the best of them. We’re starting to think that between CT and MA, New England is having a serious rock renaissance, with bands like FINS, Ovlov, Speedy Ortiz, Grass Is Green, etc. mining similar 90s-esque grunge territory and delivering seriously tasty doses of noise.

For the second installment of the four-part GIMME TINNITUS X SB On BTR Takeover, we’re featuring Clean Girls. Clean Girls are a heavy band. They’ll tell you that much themselves. But, more than that, they’re intense — thrashing, relentless, undulating waves of sound from every angle, with throaty screams slathered on top of all the punk noise. Here, they drop some face-melting music on the studio, and reveal the dirty origin of their band name.

For the first installment of the four-part GIMME TINNITUS X SB On BTR Takeover, we’re featuring bbigpigg. bbigpigg are a squeal-blasting, face-melting, fat-bottomed groovin’ noise rock band from Brooklyn. Gimme Tinnitus noticed that their Facebook interests seem to reveal a little something about the band and their tunes. Submitted for your consideration: “biological organization. anthropomorphism. survival strategies. transference. Merleau-Ponty. BBQs. homicidal cartoon monkeys. candy empires. self-defense weaponry. kitty-cats.” Yup, that does make a lot of sense.
