In this episode we’re featuring the Chicago-based experimental label American Dreams, including an extensive interview with founder Jordan Reyes where we cover his new music video for “Rebirth At Dusk,” some of the label’s upcoming releases (including his own Sand Like Stardust), Zen and meditation, how the pandemic has affected his life, work, and art, pinball, and so much more.
ESSi is a Brooklyn-based duo with a deceptively huge sound. Using a smart blend of noise and hooky post-punk to achieve mind-melting dynamics, Jessica Ackerley and Rick Daniel draw equally from ambient experimental music and pop as they do from the more unlistenable far reaches of skronk (though, thankfully, there’s a satisfyingly steady dose of that in the mix as well to shake things up). Their music rides the dark line between groove and caustic disorientation, in a way that’s welcome for its willingness to truly experiment with what can go into a song. The band dropped by Serious Business Music in Brooklyn for this super exciting session! Vital Creatures is available now from Ramp Local. Listen to the audio podcast for more music and interview.
