new weird america
It’s insanely hot in NYC, and I’m loving it. I’m barely just thawed from how cold it was this winter. The only thing I really can’t stand right now is over-airconditioned offices. If you’re living in an ice box during the days this summer, let me warm you up with this playlist! New and old this week are veering towards the pop-driven, so there’s a lot to like here! And don’t forget to give BTR a like on social media- Facebook, Twitter, tumblr, Instagram, Pinterest, and SoundCloud.
I love Thee Oh See’s John Dwyer’s electronic side project Damaged Bug. It’s weird and wonderful and strange in all the right places, and today I play a cool track from their sophomore album. Plus, new music from Wye Oak and Aurora, and old favorites from Julianna Barwick and EULA. All that, AND a ton of great new content constantly going up on Facebook, Twitter, tumblr, Instagram, Pinterest, and SoundCloud, so make sure to follow us on there while you’re listening!
Who would have thought that a band from Beijing would be the coolest thing to hit this New Weird America show in years? The psych-rockers Chui Wan fit so well onto this show, that I had to throw out the “Merica” part of the show title. But that’s ok, we welcome songs here with open arms, and I’m so glad to play them on the show today along with new tracks from Sharon Van Etten and My Brightest Diamond! And don’t forget to follow BTR on Facebook, Twitter, tumblr, Instagram, Pinterest, and SoundCloud
On today’s God Bless Weirdmerica we’ve got some fantastic new music: Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Gut Club, and a long one from Jim O’Rourke. One of the best things about BTR compared to other types of radio, is that we have the freedom to explore and play some longer songs. Which is perfect for God Bless Weirdmerica- because long songs are oftentimes weird and experimental. Check out a few of them on the show today! And don’t forget to check out BTR on Facebook, Twitter, tumblr, Instagram, SoundCloud, and Pinterest!
