We're deep into May and warm weather, and we've got the great tunes on the show today to celebrate that. We're playing tracks from Prince Rama and Screaming Females, whom BTR is featuring this week on Live Studio and Get in the Van, respectively. Make sure to check those out, along with BTR on Facebook and Twitter. And stay tuned for new tracks from She & Him, The Child of Lov, and Har Mar Superstar!
It's Data Week on BTR, and I have an important statistic for you-- BTR plays the best new independent music out there, hands down. Oh wait, that's not a statistic? Well, math was never my strong suit. But picking great music is. Stay tuned for new tracks from !!!, Adventure, and Alessi's Ark, plus don't forget to follow BTR on Facebook, Twitter, and tumblr.
In honor of BTR's Earth Week, I'm joined on Sew & Tell today by special guest Natalia Allen, a pioneer in sustainable fashion design and technology. After graduating as Designer of the Year from Parson's, Natalia worked as a consultant for top-level fashion brands, helping them create accessories and apparel that merged fashion with new technology. It wasn't long before Natalia had seen enough of fashion production to know that it needed to change, and she decided to address those changes by launching her own sustainability-focused company and eponymous label. On today's show, Natalia will talk about the path she took from corporate fashion consultant to sustainable design pioneer, what "sustainable" means for her company and production process, the carefully considered aesthetics of her designs, what it means to be a Young Global Leader, and more. Plus, the latest music from John Grant, No Joy, Beacon, Phoenix, The Thermals, and more in today's mix! (Sadly, we have no update with Dane this week, but he'll be back again next week to talk Mad Men and menswear!) So turn up the volume and celebrate Earth Week with us, as we learn more about how technological advancements can help create responsible fashion!

"... every dollar I spend is a vote that I cast for what kind of systems I want to support. I think often, as consumers, we forget that we have that kind of power when we think about the purchases we make." - Anna Lynett Moss of CHIYOME On this week's show, I talk with Anna Lynett Moss, the talent behind new-to-the-scene studio CHIYOME. Anna's work for CHIYOME currently includes beautiful, sculptural leather handbags, pouches, and backpacks, as well as a collection of gorgeous Bauhaus-inspired quilts. Her recent collaboration piece for Of a Kind sold out in just a few hours, and it's easy to see why: Anna's creations are formal, playful, sleek, well-crafted, and conscientiously made. On today's show, Anna will talk about how she transitioned from RISD art student to self-made designer, her commitment to community ethics in production, a few of the other artists and designers that inform her work, and the upcoming ON-RA, a new line of handbags for 2013. Plus, new music on the show from Dog Bite, Ducktails, Fear of Men, Night Beds, and my favorite music discovery of 2013 (so far), Japanese folk/pop artist Shugo Tokumaru (trust me, you will want to hear this guy). So tune in and turn it up, as we talk design, art, community responsibility, business, indie music and more in this hour of Sew & Tell!
What's good ya'll? Back in the mix, Let's go!!!
It's the first God Bless Weirdmerica of 2013! We're predicting that this will be the weirdest year yet, and so we're letting our weird flag fly here on Weirdmerica today. Cheers to all the coming weird, and don't forget to check out BTR on Facebook and Twitter for all of the latest updates about that station!
