Sabila Sabila is the new solo project of Brooklyn-based Haleh, who happens to be half of the experimental electronic duo, The Mast. Though the music of Sabila Sabila is just starting to seep out via recordings and videos, Haleh has apparently been sitting on this goldmine for years, sharing them privately with friends in small, intimate live performances. We caught up with her at the Jill Lindsey store in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, for this gorgeous tune in an appropriately lovely shop, in collaboration with our friends at Paper Garden Records.
Nikki Yanofsky is a young Canadian jazz/soul singer. Just 20 years old, she’s already been performing in the public eye for eight years, garnering awards and appearances at international festivals and world class venues. We caught up with Nikki at Caroline Music’s office space for this intimate acoustic performance.
Alyson Greenfield is a Brooklyn-based songwriter and performer. Riding the lines between piano pop, electronica, and hip-hop through her use of synthesizers, drums, organs, and beatboxers, Greenfield takes chances (such as her unique album of hip-hop covers) and, if her many festival appearances and critical praise are any indicator, they’re working for her. She is also the Founder/Director of the Tinderbox Music Festival, an annual Brooklyn-based event focused on female musicians and empowering young women through the arts. We visited the backyard of her apartment building for an intimate performance, featuring beatboxing by her collaborator Shane Maux.
You should already be very familiar with Brooklyn’s own Ava Luna. A few years back, when they first began their ascent on the local scene, some likened them to “Beck fronting the Jackson 5.” Since then, they’ve grown incredibly, developing their own sound (and quite a social media presence) as they’ve turned out weirder, funkier jams at each turn. Lately they’ve been sending out more of a no wave/Talking Heads vibe, and it seems to be resonating extremely well with fans and critics, ourselves included. We hit their album release party for Electric Balloon at Silent Barn in Bushwick, Brooklyn, to capture the frenetic energy of their song, “Daydream.”
