Music Discovery hits the road this week on the Listening Booth as DJRePete previews the Lollapalooza festival going down this weekend in Chicago’s Grant Park. Hear from alt bands Frightened Rabbit and Two Door Cinema Club, electronica with Miike Snow and Major Lazer, and beats with Lettuce and St. Lucia. Plus, hit up the BTR archives for throwbacks you might hear on stage at Lolla from Chairlift, Foals, and The Joy Formidable. Plan your route if you’re making it to the festival, or live vicariously with DJRePete via this Lolla mix in the Listening Booth on BTRtoday!
The Listening Booth goes on the road today, with a playlist spanning the Northside Festival in Williamsburg + the Bonnaroo stages in Manchester Tennessee. Just in time for both, DJRePete is spinning a mix guide for festival goers and/or a playlist for those who want to attend vicariously. Hit up alternative from Jeff the Brotherhood and the Heliotropes, electronica crossover with Scam Avenue and Bob Moses, and blues-funk from Charles Bradley and Lettuce. Plus, catch a few populist b-side tracks from Chvrches and Two Door Cinema Club, as well as appropriate festival trippy goodness from Tame Impala and Michael Rault. It’s (sorta) officially summer, folks, in the Listening Booth with DJRePete on BTR!
Hanabi lives in a magical land of apps. The apps allow Hanabi to do absolutely nothing for himself anymore. I’m being a bit cynical, but it’s true that the San Francisco Bay Area is a hotbed for new apps that tend to be available here long before they reach the rest of the country. For example, New Orleans just recently got Uber. One of the food related apps that I’ve recently used is No Wait. No Wait allows you to put your name on the restaurants waiting list without having to be there in person. That’s usually a no-go over the phone. But, the time I used it, it worked. It’s sort of bridge between a waiting list and an actual reservation. Score one for technology. Another app I frequent is Instacart which is available in several cities throughout the country. Much like the now defunct WebVan from 2000, Instacart will go shopping for you at local markets and deliver your groceries to you. It’s fast and ultra convenient. There are several apps for food delivery now as well, including deliveries from restaurants not typically known for to-go orders. It seems logical that a restaurant wouldn’t want to turn down that additional revenue stream. Hanabi also got down with some Sichuan cuisine at the appropriately named Sichuanese Restaurant. Classic! He also guzzled some Diamond Knot IPA with a very Cathulu looking label.
We’re all SXSW, all the time to start your Listen mix on BTRtoday. DJRePete is spinning artists exclusively playing the festival in Austin including alt rock with Beach Slang and Ex Hex, electro beats from Chairlift and CHVRCHES, and some funk with Charles Bradley and Har Mar Superstar. Plus, tune in for news on why Eleanor Friedberger loves and leaves Brooklyn. And hear why Death By Unga Bunga is playing the most delicious sounding venue in all of Austin this week. Plan your route or live vicariously with this SXSW mix on BTRtoday!
DJRePete at the controls to start your Wednesday with some high energy rock from the Freshkills to start your day. Plus, blues with War & Pierce, electronica with Flight Facilities, and light alt throwbacks from the likes of Zoe Boekbinder. Dream your way out of colder weather with Cass McCombs and info on where you might join him at a festival vacation: Barcelona where the Primavera Sound festival is going on in June. And hit up a great, new lofi mashup featuring Bibio and Tycho. That’s your Wednesday start on BTR!
Wow! It's 2016 already. Not too much new stuff has come out this year just yet, but rest assured, all of us at BTR are waiting for it! In the meantime, here's a great set of great tunes for ya!
