You might know where your organic cotton shirt was made, or have seen construction on your locally-produced jeans… but what about your shoes? In the increasing market of sustainable fashion, footwear seems a step or two behind. But this week’s guest, Nick Meyer, will tell us how he and his two co-founders are changing the industry for the better with their new line of fair trade hand-made shoes, Nisolo. Working with four shoemakers in Northern Peru, the members of Nisolo have developed a line of beautiful leather shoes for men and women, in a range of classic, elegantly versatile styles and colors. On today’s show, Nick will talk about how they first discovered a hot-spot of Peruvian shoemakers, some of the ways in which the Nisolo business model benefits Trujillo’s shoe industry and community, the progress they’ve made in just one year of business, and hopes for future expansion.
Plus, tracks from hot-off-the-press Mumford & Sons, Sun Airway, and Murder By Death, as well as music from Beacon, Active Child and more. Join us for a Friday of feel-good fashion, here on BreakThru Radio!
