The Natvral is the newest project from rocker Kip Berman, who spent much of past decade heading up The Pains of Being Pure At Heart. In the past few years, he has shifted gears to make music in a way that feels right for right now - free from expectations. The Natvral’s first EP Know Me More, was released by Kanine in 2018, followed by 2019’s cover of Dear Nora’s “You Looked Like A Portrait.” Kip recently invited us into his Princeton, NJ home for a performance of three songs, and a wide ranging phone conversation with Maia. My Names Is AMES is available now from Mateo Sound. Listen to the audio podcast for more music and interview.
Ida Mae is the Nashville-based duo of Chris Turpin and Stephanie Jean, who are originally from the UK. The musical and romantic partners developed the project in the wake of their previous band, taking inspiration from the Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee song, “Ida Mae” as they forged a new musical path. Their powerful blend of guitar and voice uses a strong sense of melody and pop structure, making for a refreshing mix of British soul and Americana. The duo stopped by while on tour with Greta Van Fleet to share this intimate look at their tunes with us at Serious Business Music in Brooklyn. Ida Mae’s debut album, Chasing Lights, is available now from Thirty Tigers. Listen to the audio podcast for more music and interview.

The Joy Formidable is a Welsh alternative rock band currently based in London, whose dynamic songwriting and epic performances have made quite a mark over the band’s decade plus history. Now, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of their landmark debut record, A Balloon Called Moaning, the group has reissued that album with an additional version featuring Welsh versions of all 8 songs. Here, the band shares an intimate performance which, while a bit quieter and more acoustic than fans may be used to, shows no less power than their fully amped up shows. A Balloon Called Moaning (10th Anniversary Edition) is available now.
