At Herald Square in the center of Manhattan, more than 250 people gathered on Wednesday to break the world record for twerking. The event was organized by Big Freedia and Fuse. The rules were simple: your hands could rest between your hips and your knees, but not below and definitely not on the ground.
“We’re a family friendly company,” says an official from the Guinness Book of World Records. Participants were required to twerk, moving their hips in an upward and downward motion, for two straight minutes. The music began and Big Freedia and his dancers lead the crowd into the infamous record book.
