Silent Barn has closed again.
Originally on the border of Ridgewood, Queens and Bushwick, Brooklyn, the D.I.Y. community space and venue moved to 603 Bushwick Ave in Brooklyn in 2012 after a Kickstarter fundraising campaign. The space was a hub for art, music and community events for six years. But after a financial review, Silent Barn’s leaseholders realized they didn’t have enough money to sustain the space’s ambitious programming. In March, they announced that the space would close at the end of April.
Photographer Edwina Hay went to Silent Barn, including the final “Last Rites” on April 29, to connect with and photograph the people behind the beloved venue.
