Minds Melted at Psychedelic Porn Crumpets’ Show

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets came all the way from Australia to create a trippy puddle of melted fans.

On tour with L.A.’s chaotic Meatbodies and joined by NYC’s Acid Dad, this past Friday night was mischievous with swirling colors and energetic bodies bouncing everywhere. Throw in the groovy visuals by Spaghetti Jesus projected behind the bands, and even the soberest in the crowd felt like they were on drugs.

As my classic faux-pas, I missed the first band, Acid Dad. They’re known for their droney psych riffs, however, so I’m sure they loosened up the crowd and got everyone ready to dose some wild music.

Walking into Meatbodies already raging on stage felt like jumping naked into an ice-cold swimming pool—shocking but refreshing. Though the four-piece is now a trio, Meatbodies still shattered the walls around them. As frontman Chad Obovich thrashed on stage in Batman’s Joker-esque facepaint bodies surfed above the crowd and twisters of mosh pits spun all throughout.

It was hard to believe anyone could still have enough energy to keep raging after Meatbodies, but once Psychedelic Porn Crumpets took the stage the Energizer Bunny inside us all came out.

Primal instincts soon took over while Psychedelic Porn Crumpets melted minds and raged on stage. I could’ve sworn I saw people foaming at the mouth, but that must’ve been the lights oozing color and shapes all-around playing tricks on me. The energy was palpable with these guys headbanging their long hair all around and shredding faces off ‘til the very end.

These bands burned us all out with their melodic and trippy sets. And somehow we still want more.
