The Music Meetup: Black Lives Matter

This week I take a break from The Music Meetup’s regular program of interviewing a musician & playing their music. Today, the episode is focusing on making Black/biracial artists/musicians’ voice’s louder.

So here is a playlist highlighting all the bands with Black/biracial musicians as core members that I’ve had the pleasure of featuring on the show before. Make sure to go back and listen to all the interviews with these musicians as well as follow them on social media and buy their music & merch. Let’s keep fighting the good fight against oppression and inequality while also supporting black artists who have and will forever shape the music industry. Click here to stream and/or download the entire playlist.

I understand that I will never understand how you feel, but I stand with you. As a podcast host/someone in a position to spread awareness, I vow to feature more Black musician fronted bands. #BLM

Check out some of the provided links at the bottom to help contribute to the cause.

Anti-racist work is a long term commitment, a lifetime commitment. It requires resources, internal work, reading, listening, discomfort, solidarity. Make sure you stay focused when the mainstream media moves on from this moment to a more salacious story, or when the corporations and brands swap their black avatars back to their usual logos and slogans for the remaining 364 days of the year. . . . . @blmuk are one such organisation committed to doing this work, to dismantling the oppressive structures of racism and capitalism, and its accompanying state apparatus. They are fundraising right now – please donate and share, the link is in their bio. . . . . Many of you may be protesting today. Green & Black Cross have a whole host of information vital to those attending, please visit and download their bustcard with key details and numbers. You can also donate to them via their website. #ukblm #greenandblackcross

The polls in Philly are only open for another 5 hours. Please go to the links in our stories to see @reclaimphiladelphia ‘s endorsed candidates for state legislative positions. These positions have the potential to make serious changes in our communities. Please show up today and continue to put pressure on City Council to revise the Philadelphia city budget.

“A riot is the language of the unheard.” -Martin Luther King, Jr. Please listen… be empathetic to those around you… to those who feel unheard… to those who are angry… I feel you and am listening. This can be a beautiful world… Love one another now and I thank all of those around me who constantly help me grow as a better human. Let’s all grow wise together. Thank you I love you.
