Who’s Gonna Die in the ‘Game of Thrones’ Series Finale?

The penultimate episode of Game of Thrones was a fiery mess. Dany set King’s Landing on fire, Cersei finally died (along with thousands of innocent people) and Jon Snow is left wondering why. Frankly, so are we. What’s going to happen next is anyone’s guess. But even in the mass of rubble and confusion, there’s at least one certainty heading into the final episode.

Absolute Goners

Daenerys Targaryen
Dany’s Mad Queen heel turn was extreme and abrupt, but it tracked with her character development throughout the show. And now she has to go. She can’t reasonably rule over people she just massacred in a city she just destroyed. Dany’s relentless and murderous pursuit of power will be her end and the show’s culmination.

So who kills Dany? Arya is the odds-on favorite after witnessing Dany’s destruction in the streets of King’s Landing. She also technically still has the word “queen” on her kill list. Jon is also a strong choice, and killing Dany would serve as some bitter justice for the show’s end. But after predicting Cersei would die by Jamie’s hand only for the pair to be crushed by falling debris, I’m out of the prediction game.

Might Be Toast

Grey Worm
Grey Worm avenged his murdered lady love by committing war crimes, like any good boyfriend would. King’s Landing is a ruin and Dany will be in charge when the finale begins, but for how long? If she goes, there’s a good chance her top general will die too, unless he escapes to Naath first.

Tyrion Lannister
Tyrion’s bad decisions have put him in mortal peril for weeks. If Dany learns he helped Jamie escape, he’s getting the chop. He might get it regardless, because he’s been an objectively bad advisor and his queen renewed her passion for burning people alive.

Wildcard Death We’d Hate to See (But Might Have to Brace Ourselves For)

Jon Snow
Once Dany’s gone, Jon may (reluctantly) assume his rightful place as king. But maybe he dies trying to kill Dany. Maybe she preemptively kills him before he has the chance. Their dynamic has been central to the show’s final seasons, and it will be the core of the series finale. Last week was a fresh reminder to be ready for anything, no matter how cruel.
