The SFW Photo Series for Your NSFW Stories

You can’t just use genitalia pic as your lead photo in a journalism story. Search engines and social media tightly regulate nudity and sexual content, hindering your traffic and visibility. Evidently the world just isn’t ready for a visual hurricane of naughty bits in our news stories.

So if you’re writing about doing the nasty, you need ways to signal the nasty. As a sex writer, I’ve spent ample time scouring the creative commons for photos to use in stories about sex, from STDs to fetishes.

Unsplash, the leading license-free photography site, has us covered with their “Unporn” series. It is precisely what we need: high quality, non-explicit images drenched in innuendo. They’ve got pictures to represent everything from phalluses to anuses.

Unsplash designer Charles Deluvio, the photographer behind the Unporn series, says he was inspired after seeing ads for hims, a company selling erectile dysfunction pills. hims was using cactuses to represent pensies of varying sizes and erect-ness. “I knew I wanted to create content like that. Unporn wants to enable creators to visually express themselves no matter what subject they need to approach.”

The series is largely fruit, a common stand-in for sex organs, but also includes a pair of zippers and, my personal favorite, Deluvio’s pug Toshi’s “favorite” chew toy which reminded him of a dildo from the moment his girlfriend brought it home.

Unporn provides valuable assistance for journalists and publishers writing about sticky subjects. Here are my top SFW pics from the Unporn series, for all your NSFW stories.

Grapefruit

By Charles Deluvio

Most fruit cut in half resembles a vulva. It’s almost like nature has patterns.

Peach

By Charles Deluvio

Is your story about butts? While you may not be able to show one to your readers, the solution is just peachy.

Banana

By Charles Deluvio

Writing about male genitalia? A banana pic gets the point across.

Better Yet, a Banana Dipped in Semen

By Annie Spratt

Or frosting or whatever that is. But it’s semen, let’s be real.

Melons

Since we’ve yet to #FreeTheNipple, these melons will do.

Papaya

By Charles Delivio

I love this one in particular because the innards are so dark and messy. Just like real vulvas. It’s a beautiful mess down there.

Mushrooms

Timothy Dykes

Look at all those wrinkly folds. Very much like a vulva, or a thousand vulvas.

A Rocket Pop

By Charles Deluvio

I like this one because no two phalluses are alike, and plenty come in a variety of colors on one shaft.

Fingering a Ham

By Charles Deluvio

For your story on the importance of sex acts sans penis. Of course, something seems wrong about representing female anatomy with a ham, but until we live in a world where vulvas aren’t treated like weapons of Satan, a ham is the least of our problems.

Some zippers scissoring

By Tomas Sobek

For your lesbian love stories. Or bi. Even straight people like to scissor.
