Valentine’s Day is all about showing your special someone that you care. While traditional V-Day tokens like jewelry and lingerie are all quite nice, nothing says “I know your taste” better than a just-for-them cocktail. So, take your pick of the five below based on your sweetheart’s personality and cheers to your love with a delicious libation.
The Hopeless Romantic
Serve up the tequila-based Sub Rosa by NYC’s Brasserie Saint Marc if the apple of your eye loves bouquets and old-world ambience, as the recipe is a modern take on a Jazz Age one invented in Paris’ Chatham Hotel by legendary barman Giovanni “Johnny” Mitta.
1.5 oz pink lemonade
1.5 oz tequila
Spritz of Rose Water
Combine ingredients in a coupe glass and garnished with lemon peel and a flower.
The Smooth Criminal
Did they woo you with their smooth moves? Shake up them up a few Currant Affairs
crafted by award-winning bartender and Absolut Elyx Global Brand Ambassador Gareth Evans. Thanks to the egg white and maple syrup, they go down real easy.
1.5 oz Absolut Elyx
.5 oz Oloroso sherry
.5 oz lemon Juice
1 part maple syrup
1 part egg white
Muddle the red currants in the bottom of a cocktail shaker, add all other ingredients and shake hard without ice, then add ice and shake again. Fine strain over cracked ice in a highball glass and garnish with an orange wheel and sprig of red currants.
The Always-Spicy Sweetie
2 oz Volcán De Mi Tierra Cristalino infused with roasted cacao nibs
.75 oz Ancho chili liqueur
.75 oz sweet vermouth
2 dashes orange bitters
1 dash aromatic bitters
Combine ingredients in a mixing glass and stir with ice. Strain into a chilled coupe. Cut a thick swath of orange peel and briefly heat it with a match. Squeeze the peel over the match flame directly over the drink, igniting the citrus oils. Then garnish with the flamed orange peel.
The Picky Partner
Does your one-and-only only like the finer things, including who they chose to call their own? Then bring out the bubbly with a Blushing Lovebird from Korbel California Champagne.
.25 oz. Chambord Black Raspberry Liqueur
2 oz. Cranberry Juice
4 oz. Korbel Brut Rosé
Pour Chambord Black Raspberry Liqueur and cranberry juice into a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a wine glass. Top with Korbel and garnish with a strawberry slice or raspberry.
The Soft-Hearted Sweetheart
If your sweetness is the sweetest person you know, show them you’re still sweet on them when you serve up A Match Made in Haven from RumHaven.
2 oz RumHaven
2 oz pineapple juice
2 oz red grapefruit Juice
Add all ingredients into an ice-filled Collins glass, stir to combine and chill. Garnish with pineapple or grapefruit wheel.
