Our Week In Music: Words from NYC Musicians, Interviews, & Live Sets At-Home

In case you couldn’t keep up with the musicians, bands, and artists we’ve been throwing at you all week, here’s a quick recap…

This week, on The Music Meetup, Elena Childers featured Rebelmatic—an NYC thrasher and basher hardcore punk band. She chatted with lead singer Creature about new music, the pandemic, and more—plus, she spins their newest album Ghost in the Shadows.

For our BTR Live Studio (at Home) sessions, DJ Wayne Ski chatted with Wize Crack, an MC from Newark, NJ with serious skills when it comes to clever punch lines and a great flow and who’s been doing it since high school. DJ Wayne Ski checked in with him for an interview and exclusive at-home performance.

On Roadside Assistance takes on their “Fall Kick-Off… Your Shoes and Stay Home” episode has BTR podcasts host share bands like H. Kink, Liza Anne, DEHD, L.A. Witch, and many more. COVID is still ravaging the nation and the BTR crew is encouraging you to keep at home as much as possible. However, it’s still important to get out and get your flu vaccine and protect yourself and others this flu season. Also, get those ballots early and make sure to vote! The earlier the better and stay safe!

The Jazz Hole Live featured Lena Bloch and Feathery playing live at The Falcon in Marlboro, NY—recorded just before the pandemic lockdown on March 8th. Host Linus walked you through the program, which consisted of compositions by pianist Russ Lossing and bandleader and saxophonist Lena Bloch. Bassist Cameron Brown and drummer Billy Mintz complete the “Feathery” quartet.

And for another BTR Live Studio (at Home) Jen Meller features BRNDA, a DC-based rock band. She chatted Leah Gage, Torrey Sanders, and Dave Lesser about their new album, the impact of the pandemic on the music scene, and their love for touring.

Finally, our Top Artist of the Week is Helvetia! Their new album, This Devastating Map, is available now from Joyful Noise. Hear a track from the album, along with music from the rest of the BTR Top 10, on Emily Smith’s weekly show.

For Tune Up, Elena interviews Bobby Harden—a pioneering sound in R&B. This soulful singer knows the ins and outs of music and the love it can spread.

She also chats with local NYC artists about what they miss most about live shows and how they’re staying active during the pandemic. The mecca of live music is at a standstill, but the artists within it are keeping its musical spirit alive.

Plus, get your “End of the World Labor Day Playlist of Underground Music” here featuring new music from bands like Frankie & The Witch Fingers, Drug Couple, ShitKid, Chemtrails, & more!
