In the right-leaning news network’s latest attempt to smear Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Fox News accidentally created a fairly convincing argument for Ocasio-Cortez’s socialist platform.
Yesterday, Fox and Friends hosts interviewed Daily Caller’s Virginia Kruta about an Ocasio-Cortez rally in St. Louis. Think Progress’s Aaron Rupar aptly described as the result as “beyond parody” for unintentionally endorsing democratic socialism.

The fear in Kruta’s voice is palpable as she describes a candidate who wants affordable healthcare and education for all. While the segment was intended to scare Fox-loving grandparents across America, Kruta’s admission of the ideas’ appeal undercut the intended effect.
The segment came a day after Fox Business tweeted a snippet of an Ocasio-Cortez speech with the chyron “DEMS IN DISARRAY?” But their attempt to portray a party in tatters actually turned into a nice little campaign promo. During the clip, Ocasio-Cortez makes the #scandalous statement to “not rest until everyone is this country is paid a living wage to lead a dignified life.”

Fox News spent a decade slamming Barack Obama and other centrist Democrats as socialists. But now, with an avowed socialist directly in front of them, they have no idea what to do and have resorted to simply quoting Ocasio-Cortez and reporting her campaign platform word-for-word. The narrative was similar with Bernie Sanders, but it was easy to portray him as an old kook; Ocasio-Cortez is young, articulate and energetic.
Fox appears to hope its viewers are too doped up on the network’s right-wing junk to think that a Democratic Socialist is anything but pure evil. The results are ready-made memes that expose Fox News for the anti-poor propaganda factory it truly is.

Fox cried wolf about socialism during the Obama years too hard and too often. Now they’re learning that when everything is radical, nothing is. And in their attempts to portray Ocasio-Cortez and others as America-hating Marxists, Fox News is unintentionally making those socialist ideas sound like they’re worth voting for.
