Bands You Can Still Catch Even Though SXSW Is Canceled

COVID-19, AKA coronavirus, has hit the music scene hard. Huge festivals like SXSW, Coachella, Stagecoach and Ultra have been canceled or rescheduled. Bands large and small are scrapping entire tours.

For big bands like Pearl Jam, Madonna or Kiss, canceling a tour sucks, but they’ll stay rich. Smaller indie bands suffer far more from canceling. They lose money on the van they rented, the flights they booked, the hotel rooms they reserved and whatever other touring necessities they shelled out for.

Many small D.I.Y. bands are going through with their tour despite COVID-19. For some, it’ll be a shorter tour with fewer people. But for some acts, like one NYC musician who told BTRtoday he quit his job for this tour, canceling just isn’t an option.

Below are the bands still touring that need your support. Turn up at their shows with extra hand sanitizer to share. There are many ways to help these bands even if you’re too afraid to attend yourself, like buying their merch or playing them on Spotify while you sleep.

Check out the list below.

Regarding our events scheduled for Wed 3/18 and Thurs 3/19 next week: After the cancellation of SXSW, we are working with artists, venues and partners towards the best possible outcome for artists, staff and the music community. Our hearts go out to all the folks who have been affected by this cancellation, and by the virus worldwide. Many of the artists scheduled to play next week are still coming to Austin, and they will find an Austin music community ready to welcome them. Stay safe out there, and stay tuned for more details soon. – LEVITATION
