Today marks the last Thirsty Thursday of August and with summer quickly waning, I thought it best to try some watermelon recipes before the fruit’s season ends. Check out these non-traditional watermelon martinis.

What you’ll need for a green tea watermelon martini:
2 oz vodka
2 oz green tea, unsweetened
1/2 cup seedless watermelon, chopped
1/2 oz water
Ice

Directions:
Make and chill the green tea about an hour prior to making the drink. Then, puree the watermelon and water in a blender. Put ice, watermelon puree, vodka, and green tea in a shaker. Shake well, strain into martini glasses if you have them, and serve.

I have also tried this replacing the green tea with crème de cassis.

What you’ll need for a blackcurrant watermelon martini:
2 oz vodka
1 cup seedless watermelon, chopped
1/4 oz crème de cassis
1/2 oz water
Ice

Directions:
Puree the watermelon and water in a blender. Put ice, watermelon puree, vodka, and crème de cassis in a shaker. Shake well, strain into glasses, and serve.

You could garnish either of these with a lemon wedge, but I don’t think the drinks need it. The flavor will change drastically if you squeeze the lemon in because the flavors used are already so light.
