Recently, at a Japanese restaurant, a friend of mine ordered a sake and plum wine cocktail. I forgot about it until I bought a bottle of sake for my chicken yakitori recipe.
I didn’t have plum wine on hand, but I used a pinot gris from Alsace because it has a subtly sweet flavor with a sparkly finish, making it the perfect choice. It also adds a nice touch if the sake you have on hand has notes of apple or pear. Sake is technically more like beer than it is like wine, but for the sake of this recipe we’ll call it a big ole wine collaboration.
What you’ll need:
3 oz Alsatian pinot gris
1 oz sake
Place ice in the bottom of a rocks glass. Pour over the wine, sake, and a splash of club soda. Stir and garnish with an optional lemon wedge.
