Because I have been apartment sitting for someone and haven’t had my usual well-stocked liquor cabinet available, I’ve had to improvise a bit this week. I bought one bottle of Canadian Club and am determined to make it last the duration of my stay. Canadian Club is a mild-tasting (and affordable) whisky, which means it’s thankfully fairly versatile.
What you’ll need:
2 oz. whisky
2 large strawberries
2 oz. fresh-squeezed orange juice
Rinse and slice the strawberries before placing them in the bottom of an empty rocks glass. Then, muddle the berries and pour in the whisky. Muddle the strawberries again before adding the orange juice. Garnish with an orange peel. Stir and serve.
While this is an emergency cocktail of sorts, its delightfully summery flavor isn’t compromised by the ease with which it can be made. Of course, this drink tastes far better with fresh-squeezed juice and orange peel than it does with store bought juice and without the peel, but it holds up either way.
Thirsty Thursday doesn’t always have to mean difficult-to-curate cocktails nor does it always mean happy hour. Relax on the couch with one of these and you’ll be ready to start your weekend.
