The Bitter Orange

Now that the Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo have come and gone, it’s time to find a drink that can outlast the remainder of spring and the beginning of summer. Right now, it’s just a little too early to find summer fruits, so instead we’ll settle for something floral to match mid-May.

This drink combines bitter orange, juniper berries, and rhubarb, which are the most prominent flavors of gin and Aperol. So, whip up a batch of these part sweet, part bitter cocktails and serve them at all of your springtime gatherings.

What you’ll need:
1 1/2 oz dry gin
1 oz Aperol
1/4 oz lemon juice
Orange bitters
Lemon wedge

Pour Aperol over ice and add the gin. Squeeze in the lemon juice and stir to combine. Add two dashes of orange bitters, stir, and garnish with a lemon wedge to serve.
