Moonshine Modern Supper Club is located on Main Street in Millburn, New Jersey. I have now eaten brunch here a few times since my initial review back in April.
Moonshine serves brunch, lunch, and dinner and has separate menus for each.
During my most recent trip, I dined in a party of two. We each went for the $30 two-course Prix Fixe with cocktails. We decided to split our respective appetizers and agreed upon the bread pudding (berries, grapes, and brioche bread) and the country salad (frisee, duck cracklings, pecorino romano, pistachios, sunny side up duck egg, and a truffled auch vinaigrette), which I recommended after enjoying it the first time.
The country salad was just as great as last time and the bread pudding was to die for—rich, creamy, and sweet, with the freshest fruit.
For my main dish, I ordered the duck and waffles: crispy fried sous vide duck leg served with buttermilk waffles and duck gizzard gravy. I have to admit that I have not had chicken and waffles, but now that I have eaten duck and waffles I can’t imagine it any other way. This was easily one of the greatest, most delicious pieces of duck I’ve eaten in my lifetime. The meat was incredibly juicy, perfectly crispy, and not too salty. The waffles were, however, a tad on the salty side for me. I would have preferred the juxtaposition of sweet and salty rather than salty and salty, but I would still eat this dish again and again.
For more information on the other menus at Moonshine, check out the restaurant’s website.
Moonshine is true to its name and offers a wide variety of cocktails, wine, and beer. As part of the $30 two-course Prix Fixe, patrons can choose mimosas, bloody marys, beer, or sangria. All of which are part of their bottomless offer.
If nothing else, this restaurant is consistent. The service is great; the wait staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. You’ll have a fresh mimosa at your table before you finish your last one.
Someday soon, I’ll have to make it here for a meal other than brunch. In a town filled with incredible dinner spots, it’s nice to know there’s at least one perfect place to more than satiate my thirst for (boozy) brunch.
