Every so often, I find a restaurant in an unexpected place that both impresses and reminds me that the great spots don’t only reside in the biggest, most populated cities. If I haven’t already proven that to you (or to myself) with my previous reviews of Hartford restaurants, the time is now. M&M Bistro, located in the Hartford Hilton on Trumbull Street, is yet another spot worth mentioning in the small Connecticut city.

The food
Because M&M Bistro is located in the Hartford Hilton, the restaurant offers breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert menus and is open from 7am to 10pm. I have dined here on multiple occasions for both breakfast and dinner.

The breakfast menu is actually a bit elaborate. It contains three different kinds of eggs benedict: classic Canadian eggs benedict, corned beef hash with a tarragon hollandaise, and smoked salmon with a dill hollandaise. The menu also offers a quiche of the day, two different kinds of pancakes, two kinds of French toast, waffles, crepes, omelets, oatmeal, fruit salad, fruit smoothies, breakfast sandwiches, and two breakfast buffet options.

During my most recent trip, I had a breakfast sandwich with eggs over easy, turkey bacon, and American cheese on a brioche bun. If it weren’t for all of the other options on the menu, I would say that I would definitely eat the sandwich again next time.

M&M Bistro also offers a wide variety of cold sandwiches, hot sandwiches, paninis, burgers, starters, main plates, soups, and salads for both lunch and dinner. The French onion soup is such a large, hearty portion that even with help I couldn’t finish it. Frankly, nothing I’ve tried at M&M has disappointed me, but the menu is so large that I feel like I’ve barely scraped the tip of the iceberg.

The drinks
M&M Bistro offers a variety of wine, but also boasts a long list of specialty cocktails including classics like the pina colada, strawberry daiquiri, and blue Hawaiian. If you’re not one for these fruity classics, M&M Bistro also makes a mean Cucumber-tini with the always-reliable Hendrick’s Gin.

You can also order a carafe of coffee (which I’d recommend), a cappuccino, espresso, or latte, as well as a variety of teas and juices.

The service/ambience
The wait staff at M&M Bistro is kind, attentive, and knowledgeable at any hour. The restaurant itself is mid-century modern, but not dated. It’s the perfect place to unwind after a long day or to recharge before one.
