Bed Stuy, Brooklyn, is popping with trendy eateries. One of these is Fancy Nancy, a spot which boasts elevated American classics like burgers, Caesar salad, and roast pork.
The cocktails at Fancy Nancy are, well, pretty darn fancy. There are so many choices and crazy sounding combinations that I got flustered and instead opted for a plain old Gin and Tonic.
A couple of friends and I scoured the menu, and then settled upon some items to share.
I don’t get all too excited about this type of cuisine: Casual American food that’s brought to a higher level, and a steeper price. More exotic tastes are what inspire me when dining out; because these are the flavor profiles that I–as a home cook–don’t feel like I can fully grasp. A simple crispy chicken thigh or some rosemary potatoes, I can whip those up myself in a cinch.
That said, the food at Fancy Nancy was impressive. We got a crispy-skin Porgy with broad beans and spinach that was scrumptious, as well as a memorable order of Habanero Honey duck wings. The food was filling, stick-to-your bones, and the flavors were on point. Nonetheless, I don’t think I’ll be getting riled up to go there again anytime soon. I’d rather opt for something I couldn’t pull off in my own kitchen.
