It’s no secret that I’m a fan of the beach. And, perhaps even more so, the food at the beach! Uma’s, located at the concessions at Rockaway Beach, sports some pretty major grub. And some downright tasty booze to match.
After some heavy sunbathing and some light swimming, I made my way over to Uma’s for an afternoon treat.
The thing that Uma’s is known for is their Arepas: thick corn tortillas topped with whatever your heart desires. I opted for Shrimp, and of course added some avocado to top it off.
Secondly, I needed something sweetish as a compliment on the side. I chose the Madras (sweet plantain) which came filled with cheese, and some sort of candied papaya on top! It was a preparation of plantains that I’d never had before, and I couldn’t get enough.
A little bit of spice, a little bit of sweetness, a little bit of savoriness and an ice cold Michelada on the side is pretty much all one can hope for on a hot, late summer’s day!
