I have loved cooked fruit for much of my life. As a kid, I loved it because it always tasted like dessert, but my mom was happy to serve it to me because it wasn’t actually dessert. Now, I love cooked fruit even more because of how easy it is to make. These poached pears taste as indulgent as desserts twice their caloric value and they don’t require any real legwork.
What you’ll need:
6 overripe pears
1/2 cup water
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp creme de cassis
Peel, core, and quarter the pears.
Put all of the ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Let simmer until the pears soften before serving.
I like these for breakfast or as a side at brunch, but they can also be served for dessert with ice cream or whipped cream.
