Popcorn is one of those under-appreciated snacks that just doesn’t get quite enough love. It’s the perfect vehicle for just about any flavoring you can think of; be it sweet, savory, spicy, or just plain wacky! Growing up in a Hippie household, full of super-healthy Co-op snacks, popcorn was my salvation.
We even had us a specialized air-popping popcorn machine, rather than using a pot or microwave popcorn. Another telltale sign that my parents were sort of health-nuts; we always had Nutritional Yeast on hand. This is a supplement often used by vegans, to imitate a cheesy flavor and add some much needed protein to their diets. The thing is, though, that it’s downright delicious! It has a nutty, cheesy, flavor that can’t be replicated by anything else, and it’s an integral ingredient to out signature Chodorkoff Family Popcorn.
The first step in making this delicious treat is to either pop your Kernels in a pan, or in an air popper. You don’t want microwave popcorn that is already buttered or flavored in any way.
Then, melt a healthy chunk of unsalted butter. Don’t be sparing, butter not only makes everything taste better, it also helps the other ingredients stick to the popcorn. Yum.
Afterwards, add a sprinkle of Soy Sauce. I know it sounds weird, but trust me…it adds some much needed flavor and saltiness.
Lastly, sprinkle Nutritional Yeast all over. Make sure that every piece gets some! Though I can’t figure out why, this unlikely combination is the perfect balance, and it’ll keep you coming back for more!
