Summer may be quite near its end, but thankfully in the tri-state area the farmer’s markets are still in full swing. In my county of New Jersey, the first market won’t close until the beginning of October, while the rest are open as late as the last week of November. Of course, the produce offered will change as we head deeper and deeper into autumn, but one thing is for sure: potatoes will be easy to find all year long.
These baby red potatoes are a favorite for roasting, but it’s still warm enough (and light enough) to cook outside, which means grilling them is the best, most seasonally appropriate option.
What you’ll need:
1 dozen baby red potatoes
1/2 tsp shallot powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp lemon peel
1/4 tsp orange peel
Wash and pat dry the potatoes. Poke holes in each potato and then microwave for 5 minutes, or until the potatoes are soft.
Slice the potatoes in half and season them before placing in a grill pan on the grill.
Grill for 10 minutes on medium-high heat until the potatoes are brown and crisp.
