When it is as muggy as it has been in the New York area this past week, I am typically less inclined to opt for a hot meal for breakfast. Instead, I’ll have some yogurt and fruit, but more often than not I will combine the yogurt and fruit into a smoothie.
This one combines a banana and some farmer’s market fresh strawberries with a heaping amount of protein (whey, soy milk, almond milk, walnuts, and Greek yogurt) to create an ideal breakfast smoothie that is both light and filling. Plus, if you’re on the go, this option is more replenishing and refreshing to take with you than coffee.
What you’ll need:
6-8 small strawberries
1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder
1/2 cup soy milk
1/2 cup almond milk
1/2 cup nonfat Greek yogurt
1/4 cup walnuts (optional)
Pour the milk into a blender and add the yogurt and protein powder.
Break up the banana with your hands and drop it in. Slice the tops off of the strawberries, place them in the blender, and add some ice.
If you choose to add walnuts, break them up with your hands as well before adding them in. Blend until smooth and serve in a 12 ounce glass.
