I consume protein shakes often as midday snacks in order to put some extra protein in my body, but lately I’ve been getting a bit bored. There are two ways to look at this recipe: either it’s an unhealthy protein shake or a healthy alternative to a milkshake. Either way you look at it, this shake is a delicious and filling snack.

What you’ll need:
2 scoops coffee ice cream
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1/4 cup organic toasted oats
1/4 cup water
Ice

Directions:
In a blender, combine the ice cream, protein powder, toasted oats and blend until smooth. Add in the water and ice and blend again, pulsing until smooth. Serve in a 12 oz. glass with a straw.

Because the protein powder and ice cream are so thick, I used water as a base instead of milk. Adding milk would give this more of a Wendy’s frosty-type consistency, so if you want this to taste more like a milkshake I’d suggest using water. It will also help keep the calories down because there are a fair amount of calories in both the ice cream and the powder.

What I like most about this is that I feel like I’m indulging, but I know that on the whole this shake isn’t just empty calories. It’s ideal as a cheat meal for those of us that subscribe to diets that involve cheat meals.
