New Year, New Foods

Forget about New Year’s Resolutions, how about New Year’s Reso-chew-tions? Make 2016 the year for adventurous eating! Try these brand-spanking-new strange treats.

Grasshoppers:
Edible insects aren’t a totally new concept, but their entrance into accessible NYC cuisine is. Maybe they don’t sound like the most appetizing thing, but they’re packed full of protein and texture!

Cat Poop Coffee (Kopi Luwak):
Yes, you heard me, a combination of your two favorite things: Cats, and Coffee! This coffee is made from beans that have been eaten, and then digested, by a very special kind of cat. Apparently some sort of chemical process during the digestion process calms the bitterness of the coffee bean, and creates a taste that people are crazy about! Prices rise as high as $80 a cup.

Dirt:
“Eat dirt!” Kind of sounds like something that you’d say to your middle school rival after they finagled you into an unfair Pokemon trade. However, it’s actually considered quite the delicacy!

1000 Year Old Egg:
So, this egg isn’t quite 1,000 years old. But it’s pretty gosh-darn old and its pretty gosh-darn funky! The egg turns black and green and takes on a pretty sulfuric odor. Have it for breakfast with some bacon for a whole new take on green eggs and ham.
