One of my all-time favorite treats is the root beer float and I’m a firm believer that some things shouldn’t be altered. After all, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, right? Anyway, this is a classically delicious summer treat for anyone to love.
What you’ll need:
1 can root beer
1 pint vanilla ice cream
Old-fashioned whipped cream
In each tall glass, drop two scoops of ice cream and pour half of the can of root beer over it. Top with whipped cream and an optional maraschino cherry.
While I totally stand by what I said about keeping this classic as is, there are some great ways to update it:
For boozy floats, add spiced rum, bourbon, or vanilla or whipped cream-flavored vodka. If rum is your float liquor of choice, use coconut ice cream instead of vanilla. Even better, though, would be to use 1 part root beer liqueur to 1 part root beer.
Whether you include alcohol or not, the root beer float is a summer classic and I recommend indulging in at least one this summer. If, like me, you concern yourself a little too much with sugar and calories, use diet root beer. That’s what I did, and I stand by it. I think my float tasted just as good as the original.
