They say breakfast makes the heart grow fonder.
Oh, wait, that’s absence. But screw that.
Breakfast is truly the way to massage your feels; there’s something undeniably romantic about a leisurely first meal of the day, enjoyed in the sun with a special someone. It represents an indulgence, an agreement between the two of you that you’re not rushing off to anywhere, that you’re going to take your time, cook your eggs to perfection, stuff yourselves silly, then possibly get back in bed and sleep until lunch.
The perfect breakfast has a few key components. Obviously, there’s eggs–whether they be soft-boiled, fried, poached, or scrambled doesn’t really matter (as long as those buggers aren’t overcooked.)
Next, you need a carb; a hearty bread or potatoes will do, but there’s gotta be something to stick to the bone.
Personally, I think that no breakfast is complete without a little bit of fruit. This provides some sugary goodness to wake up your body, without the subsequent crash associated with refined sugar.
And last, but not least, you definitely need a big old pot of coffee. Preferably made with fresh grounds in a french press.
The perfect meal, best enjoyed in the early morning sunshine. Breakfast, my friends, it’s where love begins.
