It’s literally National Grilled Cheese Month and I didn’t even know it.
I can’t say exactly why, but for some reason cheese has been on my brain lately. Those of you who follow Dish and Drink know that I have recently written a disproportionately large number of posts specifically on the topic of cheese. And now I know why–my subconscious must’ve been somehow tuned into the importance of this, the month of April, and cheese in one of it’s most complimentary forms; grilled.
Furthermore, I’ve experienced a resurgence in my own interest in the classic grilled cheese over the last few weeks as well. Serendipitously, right around the first of the month, I bought my first deli grilled cheese with melty American in years. I was shocked at how gosh-darn delicious such a simple pleasure could be, and I haven’t really stopped talking about it since.
Also, in having been sick for the last few weeks, I’ve prepared several crispy, cheddar packed grilled cheeses to be eaten with soup (tomato and chicken noodle, respectively) for mealtime as I lay on my couch and watched Freaks & Geeks.
Now, as we approach the halfway mark of National Grilled Cheese Month, and given that I have actually become aware of the status of this special time, I suppose I’ll kick my cheese habit up to the next level. And, believe me, it’s already pretty serious–approximately half of my fridge is dedicated to the storage of various kinds of funky fromage.
Rejoice! This is not a holiday to be taken lightly.
