Banana Chocolate Caramel Smoothie

I’ve always been big into quick and easy recipes for breakfast as well as before and after the gym. It’s in the early hours of my day that I’m typically working quickly and efficiently because once I eat dinner, my brain is mush and I can no longer focus on anything. Because of that, I like to fuel my body with clean protein, fruit, and sometimes good complex carbs first thing in the morning.

This recipe is great for just that and I’ll make it for breakfast often especially when I intend to go to the gym immediately after eating. Because it’s a protein shake, this recipe is also perfect for right after the gym (or even as an afternoon snack!).

What you’ll need:

1/2 cup almond milk (can also be substituted with soy, rice, or skim)
• ground cinnamon (of course fresh is always better)
• 1/2 cup ice
• 1 banana
• 1-2 scoops of your protein powder of choice (I use chocolate caramel for this recipe)
• raw almonds
• blender

Directions:

Pour the milk into the blender first. Then, peel and break the banana into smaller pieces. Put the pieces of banana into the blender and pour in the protein powder. I use 100 percent whey protein in chocolate caramel, but pretty much anything would taste fine. Next, throw in the ice and about 8-10 almonds. Sprinkle a dash of cinnamon over the top.

Definitely don’t skimp on the cinnamon! It’s extra important in a smoothie like this one because it helps regulate blood sugar.

Blend and serve in a 16 oz. glass. Enjoy!
