As many of you may already know, there is a strange spat of creepy clown sightings spreading across the nation. As of yet, nobody has been able to put their finger on exactly what is going on. It could be a publicity stunt, it could be a serious threat, it could be just a bunch of kids having fun.

One thing is for sure, though, this clown fad is having real ramifications. One of which being the life and times of one Ronald McDonald.

If you’re not familiar, Ronald McDonald is the lovable clownlike mascot for McDonalds. His red nose and striped socks are a staple of the fast food giant. However, in the wake of the creepy clowns, McDonalds has made the tough decision to scale back the appearances of their longtime goofy friend.

So as to not terrify the children, obviously.

Terri Hickey, a McDonald’s spokesperson, told NBC news that, “We are mindful of the current climate around clown sightings in communities and are being thoughtful in respect to Ronald McDonald’s participation in community events for the time being.”

Of course, this doesn’t mean that Ronald is gone forever. Just until the wackos in clown makeup stop trying to lure children into the woods.
