When it comes to lunch options near the office, it’s easy to get into a routine of going to the same old spots every day. The ‘Essen around the corner, the Num Pang up the street. Why? Because familiarity and convenience are important factors when it comes to squeezing a somewhat satisfying lunch into a short amount of time.
But, the downside is that you’ll inevitably get sick of the old standards. Which is why its important to venture just slightly outside of a two block radius to find a new spot that’ll excite your senses.
That’s how I found my way to Bombay Sandwich Co. A vegetarian Indian spot that packs some major punch. Recently, I decided I’d venture there for lunch break, and I brought some co-workers along to share in the adventure.
I opted for the first menu on the item, advertised as the most popular sandwich they offered, the Chana Masala Sandwich; packed full of slow cooked chickpeas, mixed greens, pickled onions, homemade date chutney on a ciabatta roll. I added avocado, for good measure, and requested some of their house made hot sauce on the side.
The combination of flavors was unexpected, and familiar all at the same time. A little sweet, from the chutney, a little savory, from the chickpeas. The bread wasn’t too thick and wasn’t too thin, and the pickled onions offered the perfect hit of acidity.
I scarfed down the entire thing in about five minutes flat.
Sometimes, change is good.
