Review: The Elk

The West Village is full of quaint little shopfronts and cafes in which to pass the time. And, none is quainter than The Elk; located at 128 Charles Street.

The cafe is flooded with sunlight. It boasts a limited yet inviting menu, as well as an assortment of vegan sweets and, of course, damn good coffee.

A strict no laptops rule is enforced at the few small tables the space has to offer–a decision I quite appreciate. There’s not really enough room for guests to stay and linger and work for hours on their computers. So, don’t visit this spot if you’re hoping to bang out some emails or meet a deadline. Instead, bring a book to enjoy with your iced tea!

On my most recent visit, I opted for the Kale Salad (with avocado, of course), as well as a side of sourdough toast and an Arnold Palmer to top it all off.

The food is simple, yet somehow perfect. No necessary element is spared, yet nothing superfluous is added on. An absolute joy! If you’re looking for a nice place to park it and spend an afternoon, look no further than The Elk!
